Policies of New Media

In this topic, I am going to write about how importance of having social media response policies and how it can be effectively used by organisation with an example.

Importance of having social media response policies:
1. Every incident needs an appropriate response-- Overreacting to an event may cause it become more serious which it only need a simple apology or correction of misinformation. So, to have social media response policies will help the organization solve the crisis in a proper way.

2. To increase organization credibility-- People will trust you more as you can respond their inquiries. It can make the organization become more trustworthy and make people feel comfortable to the service and respond you give online.

3. Customer expect it-- 42% of consumers expect to get a response within 60 minutes after they make a complaint on the social media. If you don't respond to your consumers, it may cause the small problem roll into a big issues.

4. Show you care-- It is important to show your care to your consumers who pay the money to your products or services. Take your time out to talk with your consumers who are on your social media side to build your relationship with them.

Here is an example that I am going to show you about how JetBlue Airways response their customer in Twitter.

From the screenshot above you can see a customer is complaining about the delayed flight in Twitter with the hashtag of JetBlue. Just within 1 hour, JetBlue Airways had given a response to the customer with a proper and informative way. This made JetBlue stand out from its competitors because it is known to be extremely responsive to customers mentioning their brand. They will try to answer the question with the way which can reach the customers as fast as possible.

Going Viral in New Media Form

What is viral video? A viral video is a form of animation clip or a short film that is spread rapidly through social media via online sharing. Viral videos can receive up to thousands or millions of views as they are shared among people on social media sites, reposted into blogs, sent in emails and so on.

Here I am going to share with you a video that went viral for a period of time.

In my opinion, I felt that the reason to why this video went viral on social media is because it involves with current issues. A car's dashcam recorded the incident that involves the TransAsia Airways Flight 235, which descended and crashed down on the highway then into the river in Taiwan.

As you can see, the video appeared and was placed as the first result after searching it by using the search engine.
As a proof that the video went viral and watched by many people, I have highlighted the number of views for that particular video which amounted to more than 10 million times.

The New Roles of New Media Communication

From the last post, I had introduced to you all what is new media. Today, this post is about the new roles of new media communication.
As I know, new media communication is we use the new media to communicate with other people. For example, social media which include FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, TWITTER, LINKEDIN, WHATAPPS etc.

Public Relations Executive use social media to build and promote brand reputation, raise awareness, target a wider audience, interact with them and enable two way communication. It helps PRP can communicate with their audience directly and immediately. PRP also use new media to do their research about certain plan.

Social Media Executive role in new media communication is to manage the content of company's social media website such as official webpage, Facebook page, Twitter account or LinkedIn profile. They have to know or to be familiar with the industry in which their company is in so that they can answer the question from the audience with the correct answer. Besides, they have to design the social media strategy that's in line with the brand identity, the company's audience and the goals.
Webmaster is like an IT management in the new media. They create, program and implement webpage, manage and maintain the soft ware and hard ware of the new media. They have to keep updating and maintain the webpage to keep it current and interesting too.

How New Media has Changed the Fields of Mass Communication?

This post is talking about how the new media affects the fields of Mass Communication.
First of all, I would like to tell you what is new media and what we have in the fields of Mass Communication.
New Media: A generic term for the many different forms of electronic forms of electronic communication that are made possible through the use of computer technology. Example: Social Media, Websites, E-mail, Streaming audio & video, etc.
Fields of Mass Communication: Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Broadcasting, Media Study, etc.
(I will only talk about 3 fields in this post.)

New media has changed PR from one-way communication to two-way communication. Last time, when PRP use the traditional media such as newspaper to spread their news and information, they will not get any or less reply from their audiences, By using the new media such as social media, they can get the feedback from the audiences immediately and improve themselves from the suggestion.

New media made Marketing easier to do their research of their target audience. By using new media, they can easily get the audience profile rather than collected from the survey forms. It also allows them easier to conduct their 4P which are Product, Price, Place and Promotion. Besides, new media give more marketing freedom. There are more things can do in the social media compare to traditional media. Social network also provide a low-cost advertising platform, which if used correctly, there will be effectively.

New media affects most Advertisements has switched from flyers or advertisement in newspaper into online or mobile advertisement. This cause the advertisers to save more their cost for buying the space and time in the traditional media such as television and radio. There will be no gatekeeper for the new media content which they can advertise by not rejecting from other people.

In a conclusion, new media has brought a lot of benefits to the fields of Mass Communication. It allows us to have a more convenience way to get or to spread the news and information to our friends and family. However, we have to use it in the right way by not using it to spread rumours or have cyber bullying.

QOTD: You are what you share.
